Supporting sustainable agriculture and livestock farming

Our commitment to sustainable development

We are fully committed to providing sustainable products and services. This commitment begins with responsible sourcing and aims to ensure optimal performance in animal health and agricultural productivity.

This approach is part of our commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen, benefiting all our stakeholders – particularly our employees, the local communities in which we operate, as well as developing regions.

Looking to the future, we ensure that our sustainability ambitions remain aligned with our global strategy and the challenges of a constantly evolving planet.

Responsible Sourcing

Responsible production and consumption require going beyond traditional cost and quality criteria in our purchasing decisions.

Since ingredients represent a significant part of our environmental footprint, SICA is committed to minimizing their impact.

SICA systematically assesses the sustainability risks associated with the primary sources of ingredients and their manufacturers. Based on the results of these assessments, each “primary source – manufacturer” combination must be analysed and approved before SICA can proceed with the purchase of the ingredient concerned.

Transparency and Trust

Our approach is based on establishing transparency and trust with all stakeholders in our value chain. In a context where consumers are increasingly attentive to the quality and origin of the food they consume, this commitment is more important than ever.

Our sustainable development strategy places the protection of human and animal health at the heart of our priorities. We choose to collaborate with partners who share our vision: responsible sourcing should not be limited to economic considerations, but should fully integrate environmental and social issues, particularly in terms of human rights and working conditions.

A global and responsible supply chain

SICA foods are made from a wide variety of ingredients sourced from around the world. We know that the development of sustainable nutritional solutions depends on our ability to operate within a truly responsible supply chain.

Our Code of Conduct for our Business Partners is a key tool for engaging with our suppliers on key issues related to their activities. It sets out minimum criteria in terms of environment, social conditions and legal compliance.

All our suppliers are required to accept and comply with this Code.

What it takes to become a SICA supplier

High-quality feed production starts with sourcing ingredients of impeccable quality. To ensure this level of excellence, we maintain close and rigorous collaboration with our suppliers.

Before any collaboration, new ingredients and new suppliers must go through a mandatory approval process, aimed at aligning the characteristics of the proposed ingredients with our own criteria of quality, safety, and sustainability.

As part of this initial assessment, we ask potential suppliers to provide us with the following:

  • A product sheet (including a safety data sheet) and a certificate of analysis;
  • Formal acknowledgment of the SICA Code of Conduct for business partners;
  • Completed SICA questionnaires, particularly those relating to manufacturers and suppliers, including information on food safety procedures such as the HACCP system

SICA’s sourcing policy for soy-based ingredients

SICA’s sourcing policy for soy-based ingredients is specifically focused on combating deforestation and land use change, to ensure our alignment with the SICA roadmap for sustainable development. This is based on four key pillars: climate, circularity, biodiversity and ecosystem protection.

Our ambition is clear: by the end of 2027, we aim for a 100% deforestation-free supply, whether legal or illegal, for all soy-based ingredients. This commitment aims to reduce our impact on biodiversity and actively contribute to the fight against climate change.

Since 2021, SICA has been sourcing soybeans from regions classified as low or high risk, ensuring that any ingredient from risk areas is certified according to the RTRS (Round Table on Responsible Soy) standard, guaranteeing in particular the absence of illegal deforestation in production areas.

A safe working environment

When Sustainability Inspires Innovation

Acting sustainably also means innovating every day to improve our products, our processes, and our impact. Innovation is a natural extension of our environmental commitment.
